Set in late 19th-century Canada, young James Howlett is a sickly child growing up on the Howlett estate. After a traumatic event involving the family's groundskeeper, James manifests claws from his hands for the first time. He is forced to flee into the wild with his friend Rose, marking the birth of the man who would become Wolverine.
